Google AI Overviews in 2026: a B2B site checklist that does not invent rankings

Google’s 2026 Search Console generative-AI reports measure impressions in AI Overviews and AI Mode. Eligibility is ordinary technical SEO plus extractable answers — not a new ranking product.

Direct answer

To be eligible as a supporting link in AI Overviews or AI Mode, a page must already be indexable in Google Search with a snippet. Google’s AI-features documentation says the same fundamentals apply: crawlable HTML, people-first content, structured data that matches visible text.

In June 2026 Google began rolling Search Console reports for generative-AI impressions. That is visibility data. It is not a conversion score and not a reason to buy ‘AI SEO’ retainers without a denominator.

What to change on a B2B site

Put a self-contained answer in the first two sentences of important guides. Keep one H1. Make the important sentences HTML, not images of text. Match FAQ JSON-LD to the visible questions.

Do not write for a model. Write for the buyer, then make the sentences extractable. Helpful-content policy still forbids scaled unoriginal pages.

A practical sequence

Instrument before you rewrite the brand.

  • Verify Search Console access and the new generative-AI report if you have it
  • List URLs that already rank for problem-aware queries
  • Rewrite the opening of those URLs as a direct answer
  • Check structured data against visible text
  • Watch impressions, not invented ‘AI ranking’ scores

What not to buy

Packages that promise inclusion in AI Overviews, citations, or ‘GEO dominance’. Google does not sell that outcome. Technical eligibility plus useful pages is the work.

What to send if you want a senior review

Share the host, Search Console access if you have it, and the pages you believe should be cited. Related work at Kiwi: technical SEO and performance foundation.

Frequently asked questions

Is AI Overview inclusion a ranking you can guarantee?

No. Honest studios make pages eligible and measurable. They do not sell inclusion.

Do we need llms.txt for AI Overviews?

No. Google’s AI-features guide does not list llms.txt as a requirement. Treat llms.txt as an optional machine index, not a ranking lever.

Should every page get FAQ schema?

Only when the FAQs are visible and unique. Markup that is not on the page violates structured-data policy.
